Subject: minutes Nov 2 2005 From: RLaRosa331@aol.com Date: Mon, 05 Dec 2005 17:03:01 -0500 (EST) I counted 26 people, including the speaker. Mr. Jim Monnier of Island Learning presented a talk and practice session on Win/Win Negotiating. We were organized in groups of three. One negotiator needed the juice of the Ugli Orange and the other negotiater needed the rinds. This crucial fact was buried in the middle of a page of text stating the roles of the respective negotiators. So if one of the actors had difficulty with reading, he would not know that by cooperation both could get what they needed. And if the other negotiator, who seemed to understand this fact, did not make his opponent aware of the advantages of cooperation, the third member of the group was forced to witness a hard-nosed table-thumping standoff. Very interesting, and a metaphor that helps to explain some of our group dynamics.
